What is Trench Warfare?
Trench Warfare is a type of ground warfare where opponents face each other and fight. Each side would dig large trenches and shoot at each other for long periods of time. This was the most gruesome type of warfare to participate in. Men lived in trenches for months at a time even up to years. Men suffered from trench foot and other diseases which killed thousands of troops. Many men came home from the war very shaken up and had horrible post war depression (Shell Shock). Trench Warfare was very popular during WW1. Cannons, heavy artillery and machine guns made this some of the bloody wars in the history of war. These weapons killed hundreds of thousands of army troops and destroyed cities.
